I think the “Long Term Management” recommendations on page 10 of the Xerces document above are really worth checking out and considering when trying to maintain a meadow over the years. This is a type of ecosystem that is usually dependent on some kind of disturbance– whether that be through mowing, fire, and/or herbivory. However, we also want to be careful about the amount of disturbance to minimize any negative effects on butterflies and other species that might take up residence there.
