Alaska onion grass (Melica subulata) is a beautiful, drought-tolerant woodland grass. It is very common in the San Juans but I can’t find a place to buy any. Any suggestions? If someone has a large patch, this could be a good native grass seed to collect and swap with others. Generally, it drops its seed in mid-summer so probably too late now, but something to think about for next year.
